Working in Bay Area kitchens for the past ten years has greatly directed Berkeley artist Matt Fishman's work. It has become his long-term goal to incorporate the philosophies of the food world into the ceramic world; the bold yet nuanced flavors and emphasis on the hand crafted feel of our cuisine applies equally to making pots. The insistence on local sourced ingredients has also carried over, finding it endlessly fascinating and humbling to make works entirely from clays, stones, and plant ashes that have been foraged and collected. The earthy, rustic feel of his oeuvre a unique record of the geology of Northern California and a stand-apart addition to the world of ceramics.

About the Product

Handmade** cups / tumblers, thrown on a potters wheel and faceted while still wet to create an organic shaped but multi-sided design.

The clay and glaze materials for these are entirely foraged in Northern California and minimally processed to allow the natural beauty to show through. Clays, rocks, minerals, and wood ashes are used.

Approximately 4" tall and 2.75 to 3" wide. Holds 6 to 8 oz.

Sourced and Made in CA

Additional, from the artist: "Much of my work is made using clays and glaze materials sourced and foraged near my home in Northern California. Several times a year I will make a trip to the Sierra foothills to collect a refractory clay that makes up the majority of my clay body. Rocks, minerals, and plant ashes are also found throughout the area to be used in glaze making. I process these in small batches, allowing various "impurities" to remain. While industrial ceramics remove these for a more consistent product, I leave them in to make for a dynamic end result, full of character and variation. By utilizing local materials I hope to give a sense of place and celebrate the geology unique to this region, much the same as farmers or vintners do with food and drink."

**Due to the highly natural/foraged and handmade process please allow for a variance in glaze work and sizing. Each piece will be exceptionally unique and guaranteed to please!
